WHITNEY PLANS CHINESE TOUR

BEIJING, May 20 (Xinhuanet) -- American pop band the Backstreet Boys and diva Whitney Houston are planning Chinese tours, and are waiting the go-ahead from Chinese Culture Ministry.

The Backstreet Boys will probably choose China's Guangdong province for their debut in September. Their exact schedule hasn't yet been fixed.

Whitney Houston is to hold solo concerts in Beijing and Shanghai from July 22 to 25.

Britney Spears has reportedly scrapped plans to perform in China in late September because she is suffering from exhaustion, and organisers say the Backstreet Boys will stand in for her on the original date.

CLIVE PLOTS WHITNEY RETURN

Clive Davis is working on what could be his biggest feat yet: cleaning up Whitney Houston for her "comeback" next year. Music insiders are buzzing that Davis was the one who forced Houston into rehab last month - and when she attempted to leave after a day, made her re-enter the facility - and asked her to publicly distance herself from hubby Bobby Brown, especially during his court dates. BOBBY BROWN TO STAND TRIAL

R&B singer Bobby Brown will be in court Wednesday on charges that he hit his wife Whitney Houston in the face.

Brown, 34, is scheduled to appear before Fulton County Magistrate Judge Barry Zimmerman for a preliminary hearing. The outcome of the hearing will determine if there is enough evidence to go to trial on the misdemeanor battery charge.

Brown has described the Dec. 7 incident as a "little spat." In an interview with Dateline NBC, he said he and Grammy-winning singer Houston were goofing around and that he did not hit his wife. >>

BOBBY BROWN'S DENIALS AND BLAMING

R&B singer Bobby Brown, alongside his mother, Carol Brown, talks to Stone Phillips about his battle with substance abuse, his marriage, and more in an exclusive interview airing Friday (April 30) on TV's Dateline. Among the topics Brown discusses are his marriage to Whitney Houston, recent allegations of him physically abusing her, and his music career.

Brown was candid about his battle with substance abuse, revealing to Dateline that he would, quote, "get high for weeks at a time...on (cocaine and) marijuana at the same time, alcohol...." He said, when it came to drugs, quote, "I wasn't a type that was gonna discriminate." In response to media reports indicating that Brown is a bad influence on his wife's drug habits, he said, "I've encouraged us to be...clean and healthy...we both on the same length as far as us getting help."

When asked if taking some time apart from his wife would be a good thing, Brown explained, "Yes, yes. I'm not saying separation--I'm saying its time for Daddy to go to work...." Brown also confessed to Phillips that he let his career take a backseat to his marriage to Houston.

Bobby Brown, who has spent much of this year in and out of jail, still has more trouble ahead. He's been charged with misdemeanor battery after he allegedly hit Houston. Brown is scheduled to appear in court to answer that charge on May 5 in Fulton County, Georgia.
